the avett brothers, louisville 4/12/07
I don't completely lack self-awareness. I realize that, quite often, I'll post a link to some video, or song, or still image from a movie, here on my blog, and go on and on about how it's the most awesome thing on the internet. I am, I know, given to hyperbole.
But there is no hyperbole, no exaggeration, no hint of insincerity when I say to you that last night was the greatest concert going experience of my life. The Avett Brothers in concert beat out every other live show I've ever seen. They beat out Lucy Pearl. They beat out Ben Folds. They beat out Okkervil River. They even, God help me, beat out Sunday Valley.
Three men. Three men on stage with a stand-up bass, an acoustic guitar, a banjo, a high-hat cymbal, and a bass drum. Three men that sounded like thirty men. I've seen twelve orchestras with complex computerized sound systems, playing in arenas that didn't produce a sound as big as these two brothers and their buddy.
I called Dirty as soon as the show was over to tell him how awesome it was. He informed me that the Avett Brothers are playing at the Southgate House in Covington on May 31st. I would recommend that every one of you do whatever you have to do, whether it be lying, cheating, stealing, or even murdering, to get to this show. Pictures and video from last night follow:

The Southgate House is probably the best venue to see a rock show in the history of rock show venues. It's smokin' freakin' awesome.
