guess what I did last night
As of about 9:20 last night, Sara and I are...
ENGAGED!!!
Yes, that's right. I asked Sara to marry me and she said yes!
The whole thing went off without a hitch (except for the part at dinner where I was so nervous that I almost threw up).
I started planning everything months ago. I approached my buddy Steve Smith, Charley The Intern, and Jennifer about learning three songs that were instrumental to Sara's and my courtship.
Last night they performed those three songs for us, and at the end of the last one, I proposed. I also had my friends Tim, GG, and The Colonel running St. Awesome's cameras and sound system so that we have the whole thing on DVD and CD.
The Colonel was nice enough to snap a few photos for me while they rehearsed and got set up:

You can tell from this picture how effortless playing is for Steve:

Jennifer, apparently, was a little stressed:

The players were set up on the stage surrounded by candles and Sara and I were in two comfy chairs on a platform about five feet from the stage. I have dubbed this platform, "Engagement Island." For some reason GG apparently hung out on Engagement Island all night before we got there:

We walked in on a path of rose petals:

Charley was invaluable. Besides performing with the group, he also helped me set up on Thursday afternoon:

We watched the DVD when we got home and Tim did some of the best video directing of his life:

Some of our friends and family knew this was going down and arranged to crash the event. They all came pouring in after she said, "yes." Sneaky bastards:

Oh and here's the ring:

Because we're all slightly brain-dead we didn't get a single picture of Sara and I together. Can you believe that? But, like I said, we do have the whole thing on DVD. If you're nice to me and get me a good wedding gift, maybe I'll let you watch it some time.
It was, to date, the greatest night of my life and all my friends made it go off without a hitch. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect night, guys. Thanks!
And I couldn't be any happier to be marrying the most incredible, most beautiful girl in the world. I love you, baby.
YEAH!!!! Congratulations guys. We love you both so much (and by love, I mean we love Sara, and tolerate Patch)! Now let's celebrate!!! Dirty, break out the $3 champagne!
Congratulations, guys! I knew it was coming soon, but wasn't sure exactly when.
Patch, well done on the theatrical side of it all, also. I gotsta see that DVD.
Congratulations again!
Thanks guys. You two can totally be ring-bearer in the wedding!
Congratulations Patch and Sarah! You both are great together. I'm very happy for both of you.
I'm VERY excited!! Way to go!
AHHHHHH! YEAH!!!
I'm so excited, what a thoughtful and wonderful way to start your married lives together!
After getting to know Sara better I figure you have to be quite a guy to snag her, so congrats to the both of you.
YEAH!!! Congrats!
OK, I thought I added a comment, but I guess I didn't. I am very excited for you and Sara! You guys are a great couple and I can't congratulate you both enough!
It's about damn time.
Oh yes- AND CONGRATS, LOVE, WARM WISHES, HUGS, KISSES ON THE CHEEK, ETC, ETC
Can't wait until July!
Congratulations! It's ridiculous how much I love you both. Patrick, I couldn't have picked a better person for my best friend. She's an amazing girl (which you obviously know) and she deserves the best. It was a complete honor to be apart of things last night. Sara, I would've never imagined when we met at Panera that we would end up being in each other's weddings one day. You are the most incredible friend I've ever had and I am so happy for you. Yeah! It's wedding planning time! Finally!!
I thought we had an agreement here Patrick Drury: no names. Now my creditors will be able to track me down.
Congratulations, kids. I'm glad I could see it firsthand. I'm very happy for you both and look forward to the real "greatest day of your life."
sara was sweet calling right after the big moment. it was precious hearing the excitement in her voice. can't wait to see you all when we get back and watch the dvd.
love,
erika and bryan
